The radar gun at Safeco Field measures the speed of a pitch as it approaches home plate. But if it calculated the speed of a ball coming off a bat, such as the one Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez hit in the third inning Saturday afternoon, the speed going out might have been greater than the speed coming in.
